Can’t Stop the Serenity – Chicago
——————————–
In 2006 Chicagoland Browncoats raised $2,600 with only 10 days of planning. In 2007, we raised $4,032.90. 2008 brought in $3,463.04 by our generous attendees. 2009 raised $4,153.88 ($3,115.41 = 75% for Equality Now and $1,038.47 = 25% for The House of the Good Shepherd.)
Chicagoland Browncoats are participants of the Global Can’t Stop the Serenity charity event which has, since 2006, raised about $250,000 for Equality Now.
There are two ways to fight a battle like ours. One is to whisper in the ear of the masses, try subtlely and gradually to change the gender expectations and mythic structures of our culture. That’s me. The other is to step up and confront the thousands of atrocities that are taking place around the world on an immediate, one-by-one basis. That’s a great deal harder, and that’s Equality Now. It’s not about politics; it’s about basic human decency.

Summary: A passenger with a deadly secret. Six rebels on the run. An assassin in pursuit. When the renegade crew of Serenity agrees to hide a fugitive on their ship, they find themselves in an action-packed battle between the relentless might of a totalitarian regime that will destroy anything – or anyone – to get the girll back and the bloodthirsty creatures who roam the uncharted areas of space. But the greatest dander of all may be on their ship. From the mind of Joss Whedon (TV’s Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) comes a new edge-of-your-seat adventure loaded with explosive battles, gripping special effects and fantastic new worlds!
(about 2 hours long)
