About Chicagoland Browncoats ℠

Here’s How It Is

In the year 2002 Fox aired an engaging space western called Firefly. It was witty and pretty and all kinds of shiny. Some folks fell in love. Those folks reached out to other folks and decided they should get together and have a shindig (party to those uninitiated to the ‘verse) to celebrate their show. Then the show got cancelled, but the folks decided to get together anyway, and watched the final episode of their show. (Which was actually the first. No one said Fox execs were quite right in the brainpan.) The folks discovered that not only did they like this show, but they liked each other too.

Some months later the folks got together to throw another shindig. This time at a Con with the intention of spreading the love to others who may have missed it. And their numbers grew. And they setup a Yahoo group to keep in touch and plan their next shindig. And the next. And the next one after that.

In September of 2004 they threw their biggest shindig yet. Browncoats (as the folks who loved the show were called) from all over North America came to Chicago to meet their fellows, dress up in shiny clothes and generally enjoy themselves at the Browncoat Ball.

Then something miraculous happened. Their little show found itself turned into a big screen movie called Serenity. The anticipation led hundreds more Browncoats to join the Yahoo group. It could no longer support us, we were so many. So we discovered a new website, with its own forum. It had room for dozens of threads and hundreds of topics.

And now here we are.

The Chicagoland Browncoats website is a place for Firefly and Serenity fans from the Chicago area (and beyond) to discuss our show, keep in touch and, most importantly, to plan shindigs. Feel free to take a look around and then join us in the Forum to make yourself heard.
